Submission Guidelines
Submission
Submissions can be made at any time. Articles should constitute original scholarship, not been published before and not be under consideration for publication elsewhere in printed or electronic format.
Text
If you choose to number sections or chapters in your text, use Arabic numerals only (e.g., 1, 2.1, 3).
To emphasise or highlight a word or passage, use italics. Italics are also used for titles of books, journals, and other standalone works (e.g., American Sociological Review) as well as for foreign words or phrases not commonly used in English (e.g., Leiharbeit).
Quotation marks are reserved exclusively for quotations and titles of articles or chapters.
Single quotation marks are used only to mark a quotation within a quotation.
Language
Submissions must be written in English. Non-native English speakers are encouraged to have their contributions language edited before submitting for review.
Word count
The word count for articles should not exceed 9.000 words, excluding literature. The word count for discussion papers should not exceed 2.000 words.
Format
Submissions must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font size with a line spacing of 1.5.
Title Page
The title page must include the following: Full article title, Acknowledgment and credits, each author’s complete name and institutional affiliations, corresponding authors (including name, address, e-mail).
Abstract and Keywords
All submissions, except discussion papers, must include an English-language abstract of no more than 100 words, followed by 4–6 keywords that capture the central topics oft he paper.
The aim of the abstract is to inform the reader precisely but shortly about the research question, the content, the methodological approach and the results of the article.
Authorship
All listed authors of an article should have made a significant contribution to the work. Others who have assisted in preparing the paper should be acknowledged in the article.
Citation
The Journal of Political Sociology follows ASA style guidelines for in-text citation. Please follow the most recent ASA Style Guide (7th edition).
Examples in-text citations:
For a single author, include the author’s last name, year of publication, and page number for direct quotations (Smith 2013:27).
For two authors, list both last names and the year of publication (Gottschalk and Smith 2013).
For works with more than two authors, include all authors’ last names in the first in-text citation, followed by the year of publication (Müller, Smith, and Gottschalk 2016:15). In subsequent citations, use the first author’s last name followed by “et al.” and the year (Müller et al. 2016:15).
References
The Journal of Political Sociology follows ASA style guidelines for bibliographical references. Please follow the most recent ASA Style Guide (7th edition).
All references cited in the paper must appear in the reference section titled "Literature," and vice versa. Ensure publication details for each entry are accurate and complete, listed in alphabetical order by the first author's last name. For multi-author works, invert only the first author's name. Using "et al." is not permitted in the reference list. Format with hanging indents.
